Hi! As I type this welcome post, I'm listening to my "Acousticy Songs" playlist and Cat Stevens is giving advice to a younger version of me. The expression on my face says I'm in a contented trance simultaneously doing two things I love, writing and listening to music. I started blogging a few years ago and most of those posts are lost to defunct platforms, job shifts, and various other occurrences. You didn't miss much. Just me sharing thoughts and experiences as I find I often express myself best on the page.
This blog is primarily for me to talk about my views on the industry of music. I can't carry a tune and my guitar skills are paltry at best, I am just a lifelong fan with huge appreciation for those gifted with the ability to compose and perform. As such, the lens I use when discussing music is often centered around the person the musician ultimately wants to reach. I am not here to tell anyone how to make music, but I am here to advise on how best to reach and retain an audience.
Most of my life has been spent working behind-the-scenes in music as a manager, a record label executive, a music startup founder, and an advisor to brands trying to use music to widen their own audience. Very few get it right when it comes to engaging fans with the longview in mind. But I know from experience that it takes time and attention and those are two things most of us don't have in excess. If I can shed some light or provide some guidance then my mission is accomplished.
I am glad you are here and I appreciate that you took the time to visit and read some of what I have to say. I welcome your input so please reach out and say hello.
Thank you very much for being here!
- Larry
